As a band hugo exists from december 1998, though Rimants (guit), Edgars (dr) and Matiss (bass) a year before have started to organize themselves in a band – they gather musical equipment, learn to play etc. In such a line – up the band participate in an infomal gig/happening „Vejs Vîtolos”, and as they haven`t decided yet upon the name of the band they are called MEZHVALDE +. At this gig they play 2 songs.
Around this time Zvejnieks join the company, and later he becomes the bass player meanwhile Matiss takes the vocals in the newly formed band Hugo.
In 1999 the first appearances are at "Lacis" fest (Kuldiga) and "Atdod Galus" (Riga). Soon some 12 songs are recorded at the Riga 99th Secondary School library – where in the weekends a studio is set up. These songs are not released until the end of the year 2000 when they are included in 4 band compilation `TRATARATRATAT – 3` (De La Muitnieks Tapes).
In summer 1999, the vocalist Matiss quits the band, nevertheless Hugo continues making songs that are recorded (1999) and released (March, 2000) in a split cassette together with a band from Valmiera Sausmigie Rukishi.
At this time Hugo participate in gigs in Valmiera, Kuldiga, Riga. After the gig in Riga Zvejnieks starts skipping the rehearsals and soon leaves the band. But that`s not for a long time – Muitnieks joins the company (in spring, 2000) to play the bass. Hugo music becomes faster and more powerful with three vocals. In this new line – up and with an ultimately new program hugo participate in several gigs in Kuldiga and at the grand three day fest Tabuns.
After the good peformance at Tabuns 2000 Zvejnieks agrees to return in the band as the leading vocalist. As a result hugo music becomes more raging.
In October 2000, the hugo/NEKAC trip to Vilnius occurs, where at the Green Club Zvejnieks makes his noisy debut. But the nicest experiences are fulfilled on the Greenclub trampoline.
After this gig the band rehearse with new strength and participate in gig in Riga and Kuldiga.
In March 2001 hugo together with NON – SKID (now HOPE DIES LAST) tour over the Lithuania, Poland and Czech Republic giving 5 performances in a week, getting in touch with lot of activists and having fun deeply.
In April (May?) hugo plays with the SABOT in Kuldiga and in Riga, then in June at Hanseatic Days (Temporary Music Festival, Riga), but the last hugo performace is given at Tabûns 2001.
The band ends its existence, but not the people, and in 2002 they release under the nekac distribuciya a 3 gig live compilation.
